A decision about the Aswasuma beneficiaries

State Minister for Finance Mr. Shehan Semasinghe says that steps will be taken to increase the number of relief beneficiary families to 24 lakhs.
The State Minister states that this step is taken in consideration of the existing difficult economic situation and the related proposal will be submitted to the Council of Ministers on the advice of the President.
State Minister Shehan Semasinghe mentioned this in a discussion held at the Ministry of Finance regarding the future activities related to the further efficient running of the insurance program with the State Bank representatives.
Aswasuma welfare benefits program was started with the aim of providing relief to 20 lakh families and it is said that 14 lakh families are benefited from it at present.
The Minister of State indicated that almost 60% of the more than 11 lakh appeals and objections received have been considered and completed by now and the work will be completed before January 31st.
State Minister Shehan Semasinghe further said that the new applications for relief will be started at the end of January or the first week of February, and an additional 4 lakh people will be included in the welfare benefit process.
