The welfare benefits board has requested all the beneficiaries who have qualified for the Aswasuma welfare benefit payment program and whose names were displayed in the regional secretariats, but who have not yet opened bank accounts to receive the benefits, to open their bank accounts as soon as possible and claim the benefits without delay, Chairman Mr. Jayantha Wijeratne informs.

He mentions that due to non-opening of bank accounts as scheduled, 156,261 beneficiaries are unable to make payments.

Mr. Jayantha Wijeratne mentioned this during the discussion held at the President's Office with the relevant parties including the Welfare Benefits Board, chaired by the Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Shehan Semasinghe.

There has been a long discussion about the current status of the Aswasuma program, which was started with the aim of providing social welfare benefits to the most deserving parties with full transparency.

As of October 16, an amount of Rs. 7,705,302,250.00 has been paid for 1,230,097 families under 05 benefit measures related to the last month of July, and the remaining payments related to the month of July are to be completed by December.

It has been revealed that due to various issues including the non-completion of appeals and protest investigations, the payments to another group of beneficiaries have been delayed.

There, the Minister of State for Finance emphasized that the reasons for the delays should be investigated and steps should be taken to speed up the payment of benefits.
