Distribution of second phase kerosene subsidy begins

The second phase of the program to provide free kerosene to fishing vessels for one day under the assistance of the Republic of China started yesterday (12) at Beruwala port premises.

It is stated that the distribution of kerosene in this second phase took place under the leadership of Mr. Piyal Nishantha, Minister of State for Fisheries.

This fuel allowance is available to nearly 28,000 fishermen across the island.

Accordingly, one fisherman can get 153 liters of kerosene for free.

Mr. Piyal Nishantha, who spoke there, said that the subsidy given by the Chinese gove ment was worked with the Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Douglas Devananda, to provide it more effectively to the fishing vessels.

The Minister also said that even in a very difficult economic environment, priority will be given to the welfare of the fishermen.

In the second phase, nearly 4,250,000 liters of kerosene will be distributed through this program.

In the second phase, this allowance will be given to over 450 yacht owners in Kalutara district alone.

Mr. Piyal Nishantha, Minister of State for Fisheries, offered special thanks to the Chinese gove ment and pointed out that this program will be implemented more effectively and transparently.
