Disclosure about Electric Vehicle Import Permits

The Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment says that the program of providing electric vehicle import licenses for Sri Lankans abroad has been implemented with full transparency.
In a statement, the ministry points out that 318 electric vehicle import licenses have been issued under the program and the country has received 38 million US dollars for that.
It has also been pointed out in the related announcement that full support will be given to conduct an investigation if there is any fraud and narrow political objectives cannot reverse this move.
Recently, it was revealed in the Committee on Ways and Means of the Parliament that 119 licenses given to the import of electric vehicles with tariff concessions have been misused.
It is reported that 75% of the vehicles in question were brought to Sri Lanka by one company.
Minister of State for Finance Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya mentioned that they are looking into the importation of related vehicles.
