137 Indian fishermen were arrested during the year

137 Indian fishermen along with 22 Indian fishing vessels engaged in illegal fishing activities in the Sri Lankan waters have been taken into custody by the Navy during the operations carried out during this year.
The navy said that on the 14th, 27 Indian fishermen were arrested along with 5 vessels engaged in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters.
That was in the special operations carried out in the sea area off Mannaram and near Jaffna, Delft and Kachchathiv islands.
After bringing these fishermen to the Thalaimannaram jetty and Kankasanthuraya port, they have been handed over to the Thalaimannaram and Jaffna fisheries inspection offices for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the fishermen of Rameswaran had engaged in a strike yesterday demanding the release of the arrested Indian fishermen.
