Interim order from the Supreme Court in relation to a bond case

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order suspending the execution of the order given by the three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court to release ten defendants, including former Central Bank Gove or Mr. Arjuna Mahendran, who have been charged under the Public Property Act.

In addition to this, the Supreme Court has issued another interlocutory order ordering the suspension of the proceedings before the three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court regarding this incident.

The Supreme Court issued the orders allowing the hearing of an appeal petition submitted by the Atto ey General against the orders of the relevant three-judge High Court bench.

The trial was held before the five-member Supreme Court bench consisting of Murdu Fe ando, Prithi Padman Surasena, A.H.M.D.  Nawaz, Shiran Gunaratne and Arjuna Obeysekera.

The Senior Additional Solicitor General, President's Atto ey Mr. Priyantha Nawana, who appeared for the Atto ey General, stated before the court that the decision of the three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court that the charges filed against the defendants under the Public Property Act could not be maintained was flawed.

Therefore, the Atto ey General has filed this special appeal petition before the Supreme Court requesting that the relevant decisions be invalidated.
