The Colombo High Court ordered the hearing of the bail petition submitted by Prophet Jerome Fe ando, who has been remanded for making insulting remarks against Buddhism and other religions, on January 4th.

Mr. Shaminda Wickrama, the senior gove ment lawyer who appeared on behalf of the Atto ey General, presented the facts before the court and filed objections related to this case and requested to give another date for the hearing.

At that time, Mr. President's Atto ey Mr. Anuja Premaratne, who appeared for the petitioner Prophet Jerome Fe ando, stated before the court that the suspect is a Christian and requested that the petition be heard today considering the upcoming Christmas season.

The senior gove ment counsel objected to the request and requested that the petition be heard under the normal procedure.

The senior gove ment lawyer pointed out that the law applicable to Siripala and Somapala should also apply to Prophet Jerome Fe ando.

At this time, Justice Aditya Patabandige also pointed out that it is appropriate to give the opportunity to the respondents to file objections and to hear the relevant petition under the normal procedure.

Accordingly, the judge ordered that the petition will be heard on January 4.
