Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says that after importing 100,000 metric tons of rice equivalent to Keeri Samba, the rice prices can be controlled and it is expected that the rice shortage will end.

Speaking in Parliament today (09), the minister said that due to the lack of rice stock in the gove ment, some rice mill owners have created an artificial shortage to increase the price of Keeri samba.

Also, the minister mentioned that until the gove ment maintains a rice reserve, it is not possible to protect the consumers and a program will be prepared for this purpose in the coming year.
