According to the Central Environment Authority, more than 7,000 establishments that produced banned polythene and plastic have been inspected during the last year.

Mr. Ajith Weerasundara, Deputy Director General of the Waste Management Division, said that legal action has been taken against more than 180 institutions that have broken the rules.
