'Shi Yan 6' Chinese marine research ship has been allowed to visit the port of Colombo only to get the necessary supplies for the ship, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A spokesperson of the said ministry stated that the ship in question has been given permission to anchor in the port of Colombo until the 28th.
The research ship 'Shi Yan 6' belonging to China has reached the port of Colombo yesterday (25) afte oon.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Gove ment of Sri Lanka has given permission for the vessel to anchor in Colombo harbor to obtain fuel and other supplies.
It is stated that permission has been requested for the ship in question to come to Sri Lanka for a research project in the Indian Ocean, but permission has not been granted so far.
According to the Nara Institute, the vessel in question had planned to conduct a special research on the waters of the Indian Ocean for about a week together with the Nara Institute.
It is reported that this research planned a study regarding the weather changes in the Indian Ocean.
The relevant research work has been carried out since 2010 and after the Easter attack in 2019, the work was temporarily stopped.
However, again this year, China decided to send this ship to Sri Lanka to carry out the research work, and previously the ship in question had carried out research work in the easte part of the Indian Ocean, according to Nara Institute.
A spokesman said that the Nara Institute is ready to participate if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gives permission to the Chinese 'Shi Yan 6' ship for research activities.
