PrEP drug for HIV is revealed to be very effective

A study has confirmed that PrEP, a drug that stops HIV infection in the body, is a very effective HIV prevention treatment.

The UK Health Security Agency, which led the PrEP Impact Trial with Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, says the drug trial is the largest ever conducted.
It is said to have been carried out between October 2017 and July 2020 at 157 sexual health clinics across England.
Using PrEP reduces the chance of contracting HIV by 86%, and clinical trials have confirmed that it is 99% effective, foreign media further reports.
