November 30, 2023 - 3:57 PM
A study has confirmed that PrEP, a drug that stops HIV infection in the body, is a very effective HIV prevention treatment.
It is said that 24,000 people in England were used for this research.
Accordingly, foreign media reports that thousands of people are already receiving PrEP medication through sexual health clinics.
The Terrence Higgins Trust, an HIV charity, has announced that it wants easy access to the drug.
The UK Health Security Agency, which led the PrEP Impact Trial with Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, says the drug trial is the largest ever conducted.
It is said to have been carried out between October 2017 and July 2020 at 157 sexual health clinics across England.
Using PrEP reduces the chance of contracting HIV by 86%, and clinical trials have confirmed that it is 99% effective, foreign media further reports.
