Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has given his approval to the Appropriation Bill for next year.

The Department of Parliamentary Communications states that with the approval of the Appropriation Bill for the year 2024 passed in Parliament yesterday (13), it will come into force as the Appropriation Bill No. 34 of 2023.

On November 13, President Ranil Wickremesinghe presented the budget appropriation draft for the year 2024 to Parliament as the Minister of Finance.

Then the debate on the second reading of the budget was held until November 21, and the voting for the second reading was held that afte oon, and it was passed by a majority of 45 votes.

The debate on the third reading of the budget was held from November 22 to yesterday.

Accordingly, in the voting for the third reading of the budget yesterday afte oon, 122 votes were received in favor of the budget, while only 81 votes were received against it.

One MP abstained from voting.

Accordingly, the third reading of the budget was passed with a majority of 41 votes.
