According to cricket sources, the new selection committee chaired by Upul Tharanga has decided to make a change in the leadership of the Sri Lanka Twenty-Twenty cricket team.

Accordingly, it is reported that attention has been focused on appointing all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga as the captain of the T20 team.

26-year-old Vanindu Hasaranga won his Twenty-Twenty cap against New Zealand in 2019, and he has taken 91 Twenty-Twenty wickets in 58 matches.

Wanindu, who was the number one bowler in the ICC T20 bowlers' rankings for a while, is now at the 03rd place in the rankings.

In 2021, Dasun Shanaka was appointed as Sri Lanka's ODI and T20 captain, and during the 2023 ODI World Cup due to injury, the selection committee decided to remove him and temporarily appoint Kusal Mendis as the captain.

However, it is reported that the new selection committee has not yet taken a decision regarding the ODI captaincy.
