Negotiations with the United Nations to hold the state Vesak festival

Buddhasasana Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Mr. Vidura Wickramanayake has been in discussion in China with the Chinese Cultural Promotion, Buddhist Culture and Art Association to obtain financial facilities from the United Nations for holding the 2024 Rajya Vesak festival and to discuss the same.

It is said that the Chinese Cultural Promotion, Buddhist Culture and Arts Association agreed to the minister's request to get support from the United Nations to facilitate the state Vesak festival.

It was also mentioned that the Chinese Cultural Promotion, Buddhist Culture and Arts Association is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in the next few weeks to discuss this further.

Also, it is reported that the Minister also requested the Chinese Cultural Promotion, Buddhist Culture and Arts Association to provide opportunities for Buddhist monks from this country to visit China and study Mahayana Buddhism.

A delegation including Mr. Angirasa Sivali of Delwala, Minister of State for Exte al Affairs Taraka Balasuriya and Mr. Upul Shantha, a lawyer, attended the event.
