Wards in prisons exceed capacity

The performance audit report on the management of prisons shows that the ward capacity of the prison cells has been exceeded.

According to the report, the percentage of inmates has increased to 232 percent.

The report also states that the gove ment has to spend more than 800 crore rupees annually to maintain the inmates.

It is stated that there is a shortage of 187 toilets in 27 prisons and 287 of the existing toilets are in a state of repair.

The report shows that a large number of inmates are in jail due to not being able to fulfill the bail conditions even though bail has been set for the inmates.

The report also stated that the number of inmates in prison is 1,795.

Also, the performance audit report on managing overcrowding in prisons further states that several buildings have been destroyed due to various problems in two prisons from 2011 to 2020.
