Lionel Messi, a forward player of Argentina and Inter Miami team, has been named as Time magazine's athlete of the year.
Messi joined Miami in July and scored 11 goals in 14 games in their first trophy, the Leagues Cup.
The 36-year-old won the Ballon d'Or for the 8th time in October.
The United States became a soccer nation when Lionel Messi signed with Inter Miami this year, Time magazine added.
