The proposed Electricity Sector Reform Bill has been approved by the Cabinet.

Accordingly, the Minister of Power and Energy Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera said that the new Bill will be gazetted and submitted to the Parliament for approval.

After receiving parliamentary approval, the Ceylon Electricity Board will be restructured, improved efficiency, transparency and accountability through this bill.

Apart from this, it is said that the private sector has the ability to participate in the activities of electricity generation, transmission and distribution.
