A growth in remittance receipts

During the first 8 months of this year, the country has received 3,863 million US dollars in foreign remittances.
Accordingly, it is stated that there has been a remarkable growth in remittances sent to the island by Sri Lankans abroad through legal means.
In the first 8 months of last year, remittances of 2,215 million US dollars were sent by Sri Lankans abroad, according to which the receipt of labor remittances in 2023 has increased by 74.4% compared to the previous year.
In August of this year alone, the amount of remittances sent by workers to the island is 499 million US dollars, and in August last year, an amount of remittances of 325 million US dollars have been sent to the island.
Accordingly, the foreign remittance receipts increased by 53.4% during the same 2-month period.
