Steps to increase the number of tourists coming to Sri Lanka

The number of tourists who came to Sri Lanka which was 194,495 in 2021 could be increased to 1,487,303 in 2023 and the number of tourists came in January this year alone, the President says that over 200,000 tourists came.

The President further mentioned that the number of tourists coming to Sri Lanka per year is expected to increase to 5 million.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe says that the deficit in the current account of the balance of payments, which was 1.9% of the gross domestic product at the end of 2022, was able to create a surplus at the end of 2023 for the first time since 1977.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe said this while opening the fifth session of the 9th Parliament and presenting the manifesto.

The President further states that the budget primary deficit which was 3.7% of the GDP at the end of 2022, was able to make a primary budget surplus in 2023 and this is the 6th time that Sri Lanka has been able to create a primary budget surplus in the 76 years since independence.
