A new type of rice is allowed to be imported instead of keri samba

The Cabinet has approved the import of 50,000 metric tons of equivalent GR 11 rice by the private sector instead of Keeri Samba rice.
The decision has been taken on the recommendations of the Food Policy Committee to control rice prices in the market.
Accordingly, it was approved in the Cabinet meeting held on 20.11.2023.
The import of this stock of rice has been approved with the aim of providing the price advantage to the consumer by making the price of Keeri Samba and Samba rice competitive in the local market.
The proposal presented by the Minister of Commerce and Food Safety has been approved by the Cabinet.
