The postal strike ends at midnight

The United Postal Trade Union Front says that the 48-hour token strike started by the postal workers will end today (09) at midnight.

Postal workers have been on strike since yesterday (08) protesting against the sale of the Nuwara Eliya Post Office building and the Kandy Post Office building under the guise of starting a tourist hotel.

However, a very special gazette notice was issued yesterday afte oon as per the orders of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, declaring the postal service as an essential service.

Also, the postal department had also taken steps to cancel the leave of postal workers for 03 days from yesterday.

However, if the authorities do not work to provide solutions to their problem, the union will take action to intensify the joint postal union front co-convener Mr. Chintaka Bandara said.
