Former President Mr. Maithripala Sirisena said in Parliament today (5) that the fifth scholarship examination should be abolished.

The MP said that after the results of the fifth scholarship examination, 99% of the mothers and children started crying in the houses and also mentioned that the children received question papers of a condition that they could not write for the fifth scholarship examination.

The former president said that the five-year scholarship should be abolished as it was in the developed countries of the world and that he tried to do so during his presidency as well.

Mr. Maithripala Sirisena said that in many developed countries there is no term examination till the eighth year and the fifth scholarship examination is a big burden for the children as well as the parents.

Mr. Maithripala Sirisena mentioned this while addressing the parliamentary debate on the budget of the Ministry of Education.
