The decision of the Supreme Court of India on whether same-sex marriages are allowed is scheduled to be announced today (17).
The Supreme Court heard 21 petitions submitted by the same-sex couple and organizations of same-sex activities in the last few months.
Accordingly, the verdict is scheduled to be announced today by a five-member bench including Chief Justice Chandrachud.
The petitioners claimed that their constitutional rights were violated and they became second-class citizens by not being able to marry.
The Indian gove ment and religious leaders who presented their views against it have pointed out that same-sex activities are against Indian culture.
