A special dengue prevention week is announced

The Ministry of Health has decided to announce a special dengue prevention week from the 7th to cover the entire island.

The Ministry of Health said that this step is taken in view of the existing risk of dengue.

A preliminary discussion was held at the Ministry of Health under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Specialist Dr. Palitha Maheepala, and was attended by the heads of the police and armed forces, representatives of the Dengue Control Unit and others.

It is stated that it has been decided to establish dengue mosquito control committees from today (04) at the district level and from next 07 to implement special dengue control programs focusing on all the health and medical officer offices in the island.

Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, director of dengue control unit, said that 88,398 dengue cases and 58 deaths have been reported in the year 2023.

He said that 71 divisions of health medical officers have been identified as high risk zones.
