The Department of Motor Transport has issued a special notice to people who buy and use vehicles without registering them in their name.
It is to register the vehicles registered in the name of other people as soon as possible in their own name.
Mr. Anuruddha Weerasinghe, the Motor Transport Commissioner, says that when going to re-register vehicles that have been sold by the sellers to the Department of Motor Transport, a fine will be charged for vehicles that have expired within 14 days of purchase.
The current owners as well as former owners of unregistered vehicles may be inconvenienced by the pilot project of monitoring traffic offenses and sending fines to vehicle owners using CCTV cameras currently implemented by the police.
Due to this, the Motor Transport Department is informing the people to register the vehicles they have purchased in their name.
